Aberdeen City Code Compliance Officer Bill Sidor tells us he has chosen ServiceMaster Clean at the cost of $16,000 to clean out and board up the Thunderbird Motel.
Gary Randall with ServiceMaster tells us they plan to have a dumpster delivered today and get started right away. Sidor said it could take them the better part of this week to sort through biohazardous garbage. One of the issues adding cost to the cleaning is the fact that there are needles and biohazard items mixed in the garbage which will have to be sorted and disposed of separately.
Sidor and Aberdeen Police served a search warrant on the building last week, officers used a makeshift battering ram (25-pound weight) to bust doors open and clear rooms for crews to get estimates for cleanup. At least 12 people filtered out of rooms while I was there with police, city crews, and Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson.
