Crews have reopened a portion of State Route 109 to one-way alternating traffic at milepost 33.5. A mud and debris slide about three miles north of Moclips had closed both directions of the highway since late Saturday, Dec. 22.

While the road is in the one-lane configuration, the 50 mph speed limit approaching the site will be reduced to 35 mph, then reduced again to 25 mph at the site itself. This speed reduction will be enforceable as soon as the signs are installed, and will remain in effect while the highway is down to one lane.

The Washington State Department of Transportation cautions the road will remain in this one-lane configuration until further notice. WSDOT geotechnical engineers will assess the extent of the slide and recommend potential repairs.
