The Stafford Creek Corrections Center, located 6 miles west of Aberdeen, was placed on lockdown after a fight involving multiple inmates.
At approximately 10:00 am on Friday, June 10, approximately 20 minimum and medium custody offenders began fighting in the outdoor recreation yard. Staff issued multiple warnings to stop. When the offenders refused to comply, one warning shot was fired and pepper spray was deployed.
One inmate, during the fight, received non-life threatening injuries requiring offsite medical attention. There were no staff injuries. At this time, the cause of the incident is unknown and under investigation.
Weekend visiting scheduled for the facility has been cancelled.
The Stafford Creek Corrections Center houses over 1900 inmates in minimum, medium, and maximum custody, and is located in Grays Harbor County.
