Speeding was the cause of a single vehicle accident on US Route 101 South of Cosmopolis this week that resulted in a trip to the hospital for a South Bend man. The Washington State Patrol reports the 77-year-old lost control on wet pavement while driving South on 101 just before 5 pm Thursday.

The 2000 Ford Ranger pickup he was driving left the road to the right at milepost 78, 2 miles South of Cosmopolis. The truck went over an embankment and came to rest in some trees about 50 feet from the road.

The driver was transported to Community Hospital in Aberdeen with undisclosed injuries. The State Patrol report said that no drugs or alcohol were involved. The driver was charged with Speeding too fast for conditions.
