A recent gift from Sierra Pacific Industries will fund new playground equipment at the Friend’s Landing campgrounds near Montesano.
Satsop Business Park Manager Alissa Shay explained, “We have been working to obtain funding to replace the playground equipment and I wanted to recognize Lindsey Winter she’s been on that. We recently applied to the Sierra Pacific Foundation for funding, and we are very thankful they granted our request.”
Community Relations Manager for Sierra Pacific Lisa Perry said they were excited to be part of the new equipment, “We have a lot of crew that lives out in East County and utilizes the facility and we appreciate the opportunity.”
Commissioners at the Port of Grays Harbor accepted the $2,500 check at the beginning of their regular meeting which was held at the Satsop Business Park last week.
Port commissioners also learned of flooding issues in the tent camping area. Shay said, “June 24th we, unfortunately, had a high-tide event and had some flooding at Friend’s Landing. Unfortunately, some of our camping customers [awoke] around 3 am to water in their tents.”
Shay said they refunded the affected campers and hope they return. She explained that portions of the campgrounds are on tidal flats and can flood during certain events. While June flooding is unseasonal, the port plans to do the same as past managers of the campground and black out the sites on the dates that the lowland campgrounds are known to flood.
