An armed intruder was shot and killed in a McCleary home on November 27, 2019. The Grays Harbor County Coroner over the weekend identified the man as 47-year-old Dennis Allen Ruhle of McCleary. Coroner Robert G. Kegel said that an autopsy will be conducted this week to determine the cause and manner of death.

Undersheriff Brad Johansson said in a press release that deputies with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in the 400 block of Elma-Hicklin Road West around 9:30 pm Wednesday night.

The 911 caller said a 47-year-old man broke into the home armed with a knife and confronted the 60-year-old McCleary man.

A struggle occurred while a 36-year-old woman in the home retrieved a firearm and shot the suspect killing him.

Detectives learned that the suspect had a protection order prohibiting him from contacting the woman who shot him.

No arrests were made, Johansson said they served a search warrant at the home and the investigation continues but early indications appear the shooting was in self-defense.
