The campaign to Sound the Alarm against home fires continues this weekend in Washington and across the United States. This Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6, hundreds of Red Cross volunteers and partners will install free smoke alarms in communities at high-risk for home fires.
9 new installation events scheduled in Western Washington
Nine installation events are scheduled to take place throughout Western Washington this weekend. On Saturday, May 5, Red Cross volunteers in Bellingham, on Whidbey Island, in Renton, Port Hadlock, Puyallup, Bothell, and Marysville will install free smoke alarms in high-risk communities. On Sunday, more smoke alarm installations will take place in Bellingham.

- Country Club Senior Mobile Home Park: 23708 Locust Way, Bothell
- B & R Mobile Home Court: 611 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock (9 a.m. training at Jefferson Co. Library)
- Maple Hills Community w/Eastside Fire & Rescue: 20505 SE 152nd St, Renton
- Crestview West Mobile Home Park: 6011 80th St E., Puyallup
- SUNDAY: Mill Wheel Park: 4000 Flynn St., Bellingham
During each Sound the Alarm event, Red Cross volunteers and partners will canvass high-risk neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms, and help families create escape plans. These smoke alarm installation events are part of the multi-year Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, launched in 2014 to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries in this country.
The campaign is making a difference. As of March 31, 2018:
- The Home Fire Campaign is credited with helping to save 416 lives.
- Red Cross volunteers and 4,400 campaign partners have installed more than 1.2 million smoke alarms.
- 1.3 million people have been served through visits to more than a half-million homes.
- More than a million children have been reached through specially targeted programs.
