Hoquiam officers and detectives investigated what appeared to be a suspicious death in the 500-block of Perry Avenue yesterday.
Officers were called to the scene just after 11 AM Thursday morning to the report of a man down, not breathing. Police Chief Jeff Myers said in a press release that given the circumstances at the scene, the department took the precaution of calling out the Grays Harbor crime scene mapping team and additional investigators. They were on scene for a couple of hours yesterday.
The Hoquiam Police department said in a Friday update, “at this time, the death would appear to be natural causes, but the investigation will remain open until the completion of the autopsy and a determination by the coroner as to cause of death. It is important for citizens to realize the police must assume all deaths are a homicide, until determined otherwise, because these are such important investigations. Sometimes this can be simple given medical history and the circumstances at the scene, other times the situation or scene causes concerns and results in a more lengthy investigation. When it comes to evidence, there is no do-over. We are sorry for the family in the loss of their loved one and have offered our assistance and support. -Chief Myers”
