The Oakville School District was placed on lockdown yesterday after a man was reported carrying an axe and yelling near the school. Chief Criminal Deputy Brad Johansson with the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office said it was reported just before 10 AM Monday. A 911 caller reported the suspicious man.
The school was placed on lockdown and students secured while Oakville Tribal Police and the Sheriff’s Office responded and detained the 30 year old male Oregon resident.
Johansson said the man was in the area to visit family and had not made any direct threats or contact with the students. He appeared to be having mental health issues, and was taken into protective custody where he was was transported to the hospital to be evaluated by a mental health professional.
