The National Weather Service in Portland this morning issued a Tornado Warning for Southwestern Pacific County in Southwestern Washington until 5 am. Weather radios awoke many prepared residents in Western Washington around 4:25 am Friday morning with the automated message.
NOTE: There were two tornado warnings for Southwest Washington earlier this morning. The US National Weather Service Portland Oregon said that the conditions creating the tornado warnings have moved North into Grays Harbor County. However, the US National Weather Service Seattle Washington said later Friday morning that the storm is no longer “tornadic.”
At 4:25 Friday morning doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. this dangerous storm was located over Ilwaco or near Long Beach and moving northeast at 50 mph.
Locations impacted include Long Beach Ilwaco Naselle Hammond town Oceanside Seaview and Chinook. This includes the following highways in Washington US Highway 101 between mile markers 3 and 31. State Route 4 between mile markers 1 and 5.
The Warning was brief, advising early birds to “Take cover now! move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. avoid windows. if you are in a mobile home or outdoors…move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”
