The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office stepped down from talks with a man in Montesano last night, the six and a half hour standoff prompted the lockdown and evacuation of the high school Tuesday afternoon.
Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate tells us the man had committed no crime’s so there was no need to make entry into his home but his tone with officers prompted concern and the precautionary lockdown.
Shumate said at 11:30 Tuesday morning Montesano Police were called to the residence just South of Montesano High School, the individual inside had relayed to the officers that they had suicidal tendencies. Negotiators talked with the man for several hours until they were able to get him to talk with staff from Behavioral Health Resources where Shumate said the man is getting the help that he needs.
