A Montana man was arrested on outstanding warrants in Copalis Crossing this week, the woman at the home he was in was also arrested for helping. Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate with the Grays Harbor County Sheriffs Office tells us at about 4:00 pm Tuesday afternoon, deputies and members of the Grays Harbor Drug Task Force executed an arrest warrant at a residence in the 1600 block of Ocean Beach Road. The warrant was for a 50 year old Copalis Crossing man who had multiple felony warrants out of Montana State for Probation Violation and Bail Jumping. The man, who was believed to be staying at this Copalis Crossing residence, would have been at the location in violation of a No Contact Order. The man was also wanted for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender.
Officers attempted to make contact with the man but he dove out of an opened bedroom window and attempted to flee from the residence. The home was surrounded by law enforcement officers as the man yelled that he had a gun and continued running toward officers. The man was then tackled and taken into custody. While being arrested, the man stated that he wished the officers would have shot him as he was looking at spending the rest of his life in prison. While the man did not display a firearm, and after arrest, was searched and not found to be in possession of a firearm, the subject had discarded 3 knifes while attempting to flee. The deputies and DTF agents on scene used great restraint in dealing with this situation. The man received minor cuts and lacerations to his forehead from diving out the window. The man was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for treatment, then taken to the Grays Harbor County jail. The man was booked on the warrants, Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Dangerous Weapons, and Violation of the No Contact Order.
A 60 year old female resident was also arrested for Rendering Criminal Assistance. She had been contacted by Law Enforcement a number of times concerning the man’s whereabouts and she lied about him living there. She too was booked into the GHC Jail.
