A 35-year-old Tacoma man is in custody after being tracked and apprehended by Mason County Sheriff’s Office K9 Solo.   Construction workers reported that when they arrived at their job site on Shetland Rd. early Thursday, July 28th, they discovered a male, later identified as Tyler O’Brien, smashing a vehicle with their company’s excavator. O’Brien then fled in a truck later determined to be stolen from Pierce County.

Deputies later located O’Brien and the stolen truck outside a residence off Shetland Rd. O’Brien ran into the woods shortly after deputies arrived. K9 Solo was deployed on two separate occasions due to the heat and difficulty of the terrain but eventually apprehended O’Brien.   O’Brien was treated at Mason General Hospital and booked into the Mason County Jail.

Tyler O’Brien is currently being held in the Mason County Jail on charges of Possession of a stolen vehicle, Possession of stolen property, Malicious mischief, Theft of a motor vehicle, and Resisting arrest.

A 23-year-old Shelton woman, Alysha Jones, was also arrested at the residence and is being held at the Mason County Jail for Obstructing law enforcement and Possession of stolen property.

A search warrant on the truck yielded several pieces of stolen property from surrounding counties as well as a stack of counterfeit bills.
