A Mason County man accidentally shot his wife while cleaning a firearm at their home yesterday, according to police reports. Detective William Adam tells us the man called 911 just before 5 Monday evening claiming that while he was cleaning his firearm, he accidentally shot his wife.The first Deputy Sheriff that responded to the home in the 100 block of SE Evan Blvd., about 2 miles southeast of Shelton, began performing CPR on the woman. Fire Rescue/Aid Medics and EMS arrived on the scene where the woman, 67 year old Jeannie Crandell was pronounced deceased.
Mason County Sheriff’s Office Detectives responded and began a homicide investigation. 67 year old Gary Crandell provided a statement and was later booked into the Mason County Jail for investigation of Negligent Homicide/Manslaughter 1st Degree.
Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell authorized the release of Jeannie’s name when he verified that family members had been contacted. Some of the immediate family members later responded to the residence.
Gary Crandell will stand before a Mason County Superior Court Judge sometime today, but no other information is available due to the ongoing investigation.
