The Westport Police Department talked a man out of a threatened “suicide by cop” this afternoon. Police Chief Tracy Rosenow tells us they were called to Tacoma Avenue just after 1:30 Tuesday afternoon to assist medical responders with a possible overdose. “When the officer arrived on scene, he was told that the person was in the travel trailer parked on the property. When the officer made contact with that person he told the officer that he had a knife and if we attempted to contact him he would commit suicide by cop.”
Fearing the worst the officer called for backup, Rosenow said “after maybe 45 minutes the officer was able to talk him out of the travel trailer, and he was taken to the hospital for evaluation.” adding that they were thankful it ended peacefully.
Officers from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife assisted in the response.
