Unsafe passing is the cause of an accident on U.S. Route 101 between Cosmopolis and Raymond that left a log truck on its side in the ditch this morning. The Washington State Patrol reports that a Westbound 2004 Chevy Suburban, driven by a 59-year-old Enumclaw woman attempted to pass the log truck on U.S. Route 101 at milepost 72.

A 1996 Mazda pickup, driven by a 22-year-old McCleary man in the oncoming lane lost control and struck the front side of the semi truck, spun out leaving wheels and debris in the roadway, and came to rest in the in the Eastbound ditch. The fully loaded log truck, driven by a 53-year-old Raymond man lost steering and swung across the oncoming lane and off the Eastbound shoulder, rolling onto its side and losing its load of logs.

The semi was totalled

Trooper Dustan reported no drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck. The truck driver was transported from the scene with undisclosed injuries, the driver of the Mazda was injured but refused transport.

The suburban was not damagedĀ and was driven from the scene. The other two vehicles were totalled.

The Washington State Patrol said the woman’s unsafe passing was the cause of the accident, and that charges are pending.

Traffic is slow with vehicles on the shoulder of US Route 101 at milepost 72 where a vehicle versus log truck accident has left the log truck on its side in the oncoming westbound ditch.
