The Hoquiam School District will hold a special meeting of their board tomorrow evening for the emergency approval of a $2-million reduction in the upcoming school year budget.

A memo to the board from School Superintendent Mike Villarreal details the planned-reductions in summary – with specific details to be shared once those affected have been notified.

The goals listed included keeping reductions as far away from the class as possible saving money by not filling vacancies as staff members retire or resign. a total of 19 positions are being considered, 8 through attrition and 11 through reductions.

The board meeting begins at 5:30 PM at the Hoquiam High School Library on Tuesday evening, April 23rd.

The district will meet with the Teacher’s Association and other unions on Wednesday morning, their timeline indicates the superintendant will be delivering letters later that day.
