Hoquiam Police investigated a two-vehicle injury collision on Sumner Ave at Ontario Street. Police Chief Jeff Myers tells us it was reported at 10:41 Tuesday, after a maroon car, driven by an 80-year old Hoquiam woman pulled into the intersection from Ontario Street and was struck by a Nissan driven by a 34-year South Bend woman. The collision pushed both vehicles to the curb on the corner.
The 80-year-old female was immediately transported to Community Hospital by Hoquiam FD Ambulance with critical injuries, where she later passed away. Grays Harbor County Coroner Lane Yeomans identifies the woman as Dona Daniels of Hoquiam. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning to determine the cause of death.
There was a 35-year old male passenger from Raymond in the Nissan, both occupants suffered neck and back pain and were also later transported by Hoquiam Ambulance.
Initial reports indicate the collision was prior to the Simpson Ave Bridge closure detour route on Sumner Ave and was not believed to be a factor.
The HPD crime scene mapping team was called to the scene to measure it with a total station survey measuring device. Traffic was restricted to one lane for several hours.
