The Hoquiam City Council held its first-ever online city council meeting last night. With minimal city staff at city hall for the event, Mayor Ben Winkleman said after the meeting’s first public hearing, “Thank you for participating in the public hearing, the first time in city council history doing a virtual meeting. That was pretty interesting. Good job you guys.”
Public comment for the meeting was taken via email and through features of the hosting platform ZOOM.
As a zoom meeting, it had a few hitches; there were no “potato bosses,” but Councilman Greg Grund’s nose took over his portrait for a while. I think Councilman Steve Puvogal lives next to a race track, and at one point a comment in the chat asking if the council was “GAY” (sic) prompted the shutdown of the chat feature.
