A church in Hoquiam will be the site of the campsite for the homeless that is nearing the end of its 90 day period at a site in Aberdeen. Jeani Shafner, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Hoquiam told the city council last night “As of September 1st, the River City camp has been invited to reside in the empty lot next to our church for 90 days.”
Shafner commended Amazing Grace Lutheran Church of Aberdeen for hosting the campsite in their parking lot to this point, and said that after waiting for someone else to step up “As a small elderly church, we have been waiting for another church, possibly with more land and more resources, to host the camp.”
Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney said “Hoquiam is a very welcoming city, and the policy of the city is that we will make it as comfortable as possible and they will be treated as we would any other citizens.”
River city started in the parking lot of the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church of Aberdeen after the city of Aberdeen started moving campers from private property along the Chehalis River.

A meeting is being held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hoquiam at 210 K street this Thursday evening, beginning at 5:30 with a time of prayer, topic discussion begins at 6.
