The discovery of tampering with the Sumner Avenue Grays Harbor PUD payment drop-box has prompted the utility to alert customer who may have placed bill payments in the box in the last three days.
“At this point we don’t know if anything was taken, but it appears that someone tried to get into the box over the weekend,” said PUD Communications Director Ian Cope. “At this time, we are asking anyone who dropped a payment into the box in the last 72 hours to contact the PUD to ensure that it was received.”
The payment drop-box was last emptied by PUD staff at 2:30 PM on Friday, October 23. Scratch marks and a sticky substance on the box were first reported on the morning of Monday, October 26. Customers who deposited payments between those times should call PUD Customer Service at 360-532-4220. If a bill was deposited but not received by the PUD, those customers should immediately contact their banks and alert them of the theft.
