Grays Harbor Community Hospital is reducing staff hours and furloughing some employees for 3 months to cut costs. A letter to staff dated yesterday said that the hospital’s response to the COVID-19 coronavirus has increased costs, and then closures and cancellations have cut their outpatient volume by 45%, which they said is affecting revenues.
CEO Tom Jensen explained that the state’s employment security department has resources available for those whose employment has been affected by this pandemic. The letter said the hospital will implement an 18% reduction of work hours to staffing levels but didn’t detail exactly which departments would see what reductions.
Jensen assured employees that those directly impacted would hear from their supervisors by no later than Friday, May 10th.
