Each year the Grays Harbor Community Hospital (GHCH) Foundation partners with the Grays Harbor College Foundation (GHC Foundation) to award the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships and the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation Medical Scholarships.
We are immensely proud to announce that Samantha Rasler and Chyanne Subjack are this year’s recipients of the $2000 Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation Medical Scholarship, and Joan Chapin and Kristina Culver are this year’s recipients of the $1000 Grays Harbor Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship.
The GHCH Foundation is grateful for the work GHC Foundation does to make the scholarship selections. With so many amazing students and so much need in our community we know the selection process cannot be easy. “Our scholarship program is one of the things we are most proud to be able to offer our community. While so much of our work is related directly to patient care at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, these scholarship programs help students with an interest in healthcare. It broadens the scope of how we support healthcare and our community hospital” Charlie Quigg, Foundation Board Chair
The intent of the Grays Harbor Hospital Foundation Medical Scholarship is to provide need based students funds to further their education in the medical field, with the hope that these students will remain in the community and work at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. A minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0, majoring in the medical field, full time attendance and financial need are requirements.
The Grays Harbor Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship is reserved to support students taking coursework in the medical field. Recipients of this award must have completed 50 hours of volunteer services at GHCH East or West Campus within the year prior. A minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5, majoring in nursing or medical field, and full-time attendance are required. This year the recipients meet all requirements except the 50 hours of volunteer service at the hospital, due to COVID-19, but we decided it was important continue supporting students in our community, especially in these challenging times.
Instead of the usual awards ceremony, due to COVID-19, this year’s recipients offered letters of thanks and included a little bit about themselves. Said Lisa J. Smith
Executive Director of the GHC Foundation and Director of College Development, “We’ve enjoyed reading the letters that students have sent in and how donors like you are supporting them during a very difficult time in their lives. Thank you for being a part of what makes our community and college so amazing!”
The Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation is grateful for the opportunity and ability to be able to help students in our community to attend Grays Harbor College. Our entire region is benefitted by have the college here to help prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s work.
