A child was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after a car wreck Monday, the driver, and also the child’s father is under arrest and was believed to have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office tells us that at about 11:50 am Monday morning, deputies responded to the 200 block of Mox Chehalis Road regarding a vehicle collision with injuries. While en route, deputies learned that the male driver of the vehicle sustained what appeared to be minor injuries, however, the man’s young son received very serious injuries. Both individuals were eventually transported to Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma. The child was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The driver of the vehicle is a 21-year-old Elma man and his son was 3 years old.
Shumate said investigators believe the driver was under the influence of various drugs. The man was eventually booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail for Vehicular Assault. The child’s injuries were reported to be very serious. Investigators will be inquiring throughout the day on the child’s status.
