The Washington State Patrol is investigating a fatality collision that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Shelton woman and injured four others at the McCleary turnoff from State Route 8 on Sunday.

Trooper Bryan’s report said it happened at 6:37 p.m. Sunday evening when a 2011 Kia Soul, driven by a 19-year-old Shelton man was in the Eastbound turn lane of State Route 8 and turned in front of a Westbound 1999 Honda Accord, driven by an 18-year-old South Bend woman.

The collision fully blocked the Westbound lanes of State Route 8, and the 108 turn-off, for 4 hours. Bryan said a language barrier at the scene hindered some of the investigation, and not everyone has been identified.

A Shelton toddler and a 40-year-old Shelton woman in the Kia were injured. The family of the Shelton woman who died at the scene is being notified before a name is released, she was also in the Kia. Two girls, aged 16 and 18, in the Honda were injured all were transported with undisclosed injuries to Capitol Medical Center as a precaution. Both drivers were uninjured.

A cause, and any charges stemming from the accident remain under investigation.
