An Elma man was arrested for assaulting his father this week, Steve Shumate with the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department tells us Monday evening, around 6:03 pm, deputies and officers with the Elma Police Department responded to a residence off of House Lane (Elma) reference a Domestic Violence Assault. A 60 year old man reported that he just arrived home and found his 34 year old live-in son highly agitated, very intoxicated, and eventually assaulted his father. The son then threatened to kill his father so the father ran to the neighbors residence to summon help. Two of the neighbors were able to subdue the now out-of-control son until law enforcement arrived.

Deputies eventually found that the son had discharged several rounds from a firearm through the ceiling of one of the bedrooms inside the residence while the father was away. The firearm used for this belonged to the father and was eventually located. The son was arrested for Assault 2nd degree for the threats made to his father, and unlawful possession of a firearm as the son was a convicted felon. Due to the son’s highly intoxicated state, deputies had to transported him to Summit Pacific Hospital to be cleared for incarceration.

The man continued to be uncooperative with the deputies and hospital staff while being evaluated. He continually yelled at the nurses and doctors during his evaluation. The man was eventually booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail for DV Assault 2nd degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
