Chuck Wallace is no longer the Deputy Director of Grays Harbor County’s Emergency Management Agency. An email sent to media outlets yesterday thanked the citizens of Grays Harbor, and recounted the department’s accomplishments over the years.

He concluded by citing Rudyard Kipling’s “The Palace,” saying “I tried to build a palace, and now I see only ruins. My objectives were clear. My performance was less than perfect. But, I pass on to my successor, the dream of the palace, I tried to build.”

County Sheriff Rick Scott couldn’t say much to the media, only that he planned to issue a press release early next week.

Wallace said in his email Monday, “My time at Grays Harbor Emergency Management, and my service to the citizens of Grays Harbor County has come to a close. I would like to personally thank you for your support over the last nine years” He added, “Please never stop your efforts to help us prepare for the inevitable major disaster. I know there are times when it seems like you’re facing a very steep mountain, but you are making progress.”
