A bill in Olympia could create an account for natural disaster recovery in Washington State, and free up emergency funds for victims of the Carlton Complex fire, as well as the heavy rains, flooding, and landslides that hit Western Washington in early January.
House Bill 2022 is co sponsored by State Representative Brian Blake and 14 others, and creates the natural disaster economic recovery account which would be administered by the department of commerce. Under the bill, Funding may be provided directly to a county, city, or other local subdivision, or a nonprofit organization dedicated to the long- term recovery of an area affected by a natural disaster. The funding would require a state of emergency be declared by the governor due to a natural disaster.
