A 29 year-old Aberdeen woman is in jail after police say she attempted to ignite a house with 6 people inside. Police Sgt. Art Jaur tells us that on Friday, July 31st about 8:19 AM, Aberdeen Police and Firefighters were advised of a structure fire in the 1400 Block of W. Second St. in Aberdeen. Responding units were also informed that the fire had been intentionally set and the person responsible for the fire had fled the area. Information had also been obtained that the house had been occupied by 6 people (4 juveniles and 2 adults) at the time the fire was set.
Upon the arrival of the fire and police units, it was discovered that the fire had already been extinguished by one of the occupants of the home. Damage was contained to just a small camping light which had been in the basement of the home. There were no injuries reported.
One of the occupants of the home had witnessed the fire being started and knew the identity of the person who had ignited the lamp and other items in the basement. This person (a 29 year old Aberdeen resident) was later located by Aberdeen Police Officers and arrested for Arson in the 1st Degree. She was also arrested on the charge of a felony violation of a protection order and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
She is currently located at the Aberdeen Police Department pending transfer to the Grays Harbor County Jail. This investigation is on-going.
