An Amanda Park woman escaped injury Friday evening when her 2012 Volkswagen Jetta was involved in a collision with an eastbound train at the Gateway Center in East Aberdeen.
The car was waiting at the intersection of E. Wishkah and Tyler just before 5:30 PM on Friday evening. The vehicle was first in line, in the right lane, and waited for most of the train to pass before witnesses said it started to idle forward and into the last 4 or 5 cars of the train.
The vehicle sustained significant front end damage, the bumper was torn off and the car was pushed into the ditch to the right. The train was traveling at routine speeds, and police reported that the engine staff was unaware of the collision as the train continued toward east county.
The 64-year-old driver was shaken but did not report any injuries. Police said that alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the collision.
