An Aberdeen woman died after the vehicle she was in rolled alongside State Route 8 East of Grays Harbor County Saturday night. The Washington State Patrol reports a 21-year-old Elma man was driving a 1999 Ford F350 pickup East on 8 when he lost control near Wilson Road in Thurston County, 18 miles East of Elma. The truck struck the guardrail and left the road to the right coming to rest on the driver’s side about 25 feet off of the highway just before 10 PM Saturday.

The State Patrol said a 24-year-old Aberdeen woman who was a passenger in the truck died. The driver was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The report said that it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor and that neither person was wearing a seatbelt. Tannija J. Smith, 24, of Aberdeen, was later identified as the woman who died in the wreck in Thurston County.

The right lane of the road was closed for almost 4 hours into Sunday morning while the state patrol investigated.
