The city of Aberdeen is opening their Post Office lobby 24 hours a day once again, beginning today the lobby at 115 K Street will be open overnights.
A press release from the city said that they’ve been working with the Aberdeen Post Office for several weeks to reopen the lobby for after-hours post office box users and a tentative agreement has been reached.
Per the agreement, the Post Office has signed a trespass agreement with the City to allow the Aberdeen Police Department to enforce trespassing after normal business hours without having to first contact management. Signs have also been placed in the lobby to ask customers to report unusual behavior to the police and notices were mailed to each post office box renter instructing them to call the police if they see any problems in the area.
According to crimereports.com, their last interaction at that location was at 6:30 last night, when an officer reported a suspicious person to 911 dispatchers, after speaking with the man the officer then reported that the 43-year-old Aberdeen man was “on his way.”
Aberdeen Mayor Erik Larson said in the press release that, “Having the post office lobby available 24-hours a day is incredibly important.” Larson added, “The post office is an important asset to our community and it is imperative to have it available for our small businesses and the working members of our community at a time that they are able to use it.”
