Aberdeen Police are investigating after someone tried to pry open the back door of the Tobacco Depot overnight. A source at the department tells us they were contacted early this morning by owners of the business in the 1300 block of Sumner Avenue after they discovered the damage.
Police have about an hour of surveillance video to help them ID their suspect, who is shown arriving at about 1:45 Tuesday morning. The video shows the man disabling some cameras, tearing apart two steps, then trying to pry open the metal backdoor for about an hour before they gave up. Our source said that police are reviewing that video now, and hope to have someone in custody soon.
A source at the business said that this is not the first time they’ve had problems in that area. The backdoor faces an alley between Sumner Avenue and Cherry Street and is visible from the Finch Playfield park next door.
