An Aberdeen man was arrested this week after he ran from police, he said he ran from the officer because they were chasing him.

Lieutenant Kevin Darst with the Aberdeen Police Department said an officer saw the man riding a long board East on East First Street just before 10 a.m. Monday morning. He learned there was probable cause for the man’s arrest over the reported violation of a no contact order. As the officer activated his lights and exited his vehicle nearby, the man ran around the corner in the 300 block of East First Street.

The officer began a foot pursuit as they called for backup. Officers converged on an apartment complex nearby and began searching on foot. As one officer began to check the apartment doors and went up the staircase, he saw the man hiding in the far southeast corner of the top floor landing.

The man was taken into custody without further incident. Police said he kept asking why he was being chased; when told it was because of the no contact order, he said he was only running because the officers were chasing him.

The male subject was placed into the patrol vehicle and booked into the Aberdeen Police Department.
