A 58-year-old Aberdeen man was arrested Monday after he doused himself with gasoline and told police he was going to light himself on fire. Officers were called to the man’s home in the 500 block of North M Street around 3 PM Monday afternoon.

Aberdeen officers and a crisis negotiator from Hoquiam spoke with the man for over an hour as he continued to ignite lighters that he held in each hand while soaked in gasoline. They eventually talked him into coming down the stairs where they were able to use less-lethal methods to take him into custody before he could ignite his clothing.

Investigators learned that he and his wife had been in a domestic dispute prompting the crisis situation. He was treated at Community Hospital before being arrested on charges related to damage in the house during the domestic dispute.
