The Aberdeen Fire Department reports over $50,000 in damages after a fire on the first floor of a vacant building on Market Street Friday night.
Battalion Chief Damon Lillybridge said that at 8:40 PM Friday they were called to a structure fire in a vacant two-story residential building at 818 East Market Street. Arriving crews were able to confine the fire to the 1st-floor northeast bedroom.
Lillybridge said that the cause of the fire could not be determined, the area of origin consisted of a couch and other furniture and debris. The structure is vacant and boarded up. The 1st floor of the structure is full of garbage and piled debris as well as discarded drug paraphernalia.
As a result of the fire there was extensive heat damage to the 1st-floor northeast bedroom and adjacent exterior wall. There was also extensive smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure. Estimated damage to structure and contents is about $50,000.
The fire was managed at a 2nd alarm level. 11 firefighters from the Aberdeen fire Department, the Aberdeen Fire Chief and Assistant Chief, along with one Engine from Hoquiam Fire Dept. with two firefighters responded.
