An inmate attempted suicide with a disposable razor at the Aberdeen City Jail last night. A source at the department tells us the 35-year-old man removed and concealed the blade from a disposable shaving razor, which he later used to inflict superficial wounds on himself.
Jailers initially called for a bean-bag shotgun as the man was not saying where he hid the razor, but they were able to get that secured.
The man was treated for wounds to the wrist by Aberdeen Fire Department medics before being transported to Community Hospital for a mental health evaluation and then returned to the jail after it was determined he was not a threat to himself or others.
He is serving a court commitment for 10 days on a warrant.
