An 18 year old Shelton man was arrested for a hate crime Sunday, Lieutenant Les Watson with the Shelton Police Department tells us it started in front of the Civic Center on West Cota Street when a group of people near the bus stop began yelling obscenities at two juveniles who were walking in the area. The vulgar comments being made to the two juveniles was in regards to the group’s perception of their sexual orientation. The 18-year-old suspect was part of the harrassing group, he chased after the two juveniles on foot and then assaulted one of them while in the alley near S. 8th Street and West Cota.
Shelton Police responded and arrested the 18-year-old who was also under the influence of alcohol. He was booked into the Mason County Jail on charges of Malicious Harassment, which is a hate crime in the State of Washington.
