ABC/Donna Svennevik Just when you thought that the list of artists who Ryan Tedder's worked with couldn't possibly get more impressive, word now comes that he's producing the upcoming album by U2.
Billboard reports that the OneRepublic singer, whose production and songwriting credits already include hits from Adele, Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson, is one of several producers who are toiling away on the superstar band's latest project, which has now been pushed to 2015. Another name in the mix is Paul Epworth, who, like Ryan, worked on Adele's smash 21. Overseeing the project is Danger Mouse, who is perhaps best known as the other half of Gnarls Barkley -- the guy who isn't Cee Lo Green.
According to Billboard, enlisting Ryan and Epworth may be an attempt by U2 to remain relevant in today's music scene, which is something that frontman Bono seems to be very concerned about. He told The Hollywood Reporter in February, "To be relevant is a lot harder than to be successful."
As for why Bono turned to Ryan, well, his track record certainly counts for something, but it turns out that OneRepublic goes back a ways ...read more
Michael Becker/FOXThursday night, Emily Piriz became the latest contestant to be voted off American Idol, but she has no hard feelings. In fact, the 18-year-old singer from Florida told reporters on Friday that she's tried all the other singing competition shows, and Idol's the best.
Turns out that before we ever saw her on Idol, Emily had already tried out for the show once before and failed. She also said she tried out for The X Factor three times, The Voice "three or four times" and America's Got Talent "three or four times." It was based on all that experience that she told reporters, "Idol to me is as good as it gets. You know, it's the best of the best."
"It's the original and everyone is a huge family," she explained. "It's been on for 13 seasons. And it's almost all the same crew members, staff people, I mean, everyone's so close and they treat us like family. They really do. It's amazing."
Emily says that even though she was "said 'no' to a lot," she "never gave up." "Look at me now," she told reporters. "You just have to keep practicing and keep going. ...read more
Image Courtesy Madonna via InstagramIf you love the song "Wake Me Up" by Avicii, then you'll probably like Madonna's new album. The Queen of Pop confirmed that the two are collaborating on new music.
On Instagram, Madonna posted a photo of herself crouching down in what looks like a marble bathroom. She captioned the photo, "Doing some house work before heading to the studio with Avicci! #artforfreedom#clean."
She misspelled Avicii's name in her caption, but hey, she's Madonna. She doesn't have to worry about little things like spelling, right?
Swedish producer and deejay Avicii, whose birth name is Tim Bergling, not only gave us the hit "Wake Me Up" -- which features uncredited vocals from Aloe Blacc -- but he's also responsible for the follow-up, "Hey Brother." It's not such a big surprise that he and Madonna are collaborating, since she's a big fan of working with the hottest dance music producers around.
Big Machine RecordsTaylor Swift has purchased homes in New England and Los Angeles since becoming a global superstar, but she'll always think of Nashville as her home base. In a new interview with Time on the Tennessee city's booming economy, Taylor reveals her practical reasons for working mainly out of Nashville.
"Choosing to have my management company based in Nashville just made sense because my family is there as well as my record label," Taylor says. "I never think about moving home bases. It's hard to describe why you consider a town your home base, except that when people ask me, 'Where's home?', I don't even think before I say 'Nashville.'"
There are also personal reasons why Taylor prefers to spend time in Nashville: it offers her an escape from the paparazzi who track her every move in New York or L.A.
"You don't see as much evidence of me spending time in Nashville, because I'm not being photographed at the grocery store," she explains. "I'm just able to wander around the grocery store and make casual conversation with the girl standing next to me in the produce aisle."

ABC/Matt BrownLady Gaga's forthcoming tour artRave: the ARTPOP Ball hasn't even begun, but it's already plagued by rumors that ticket sales aren't strong, and the whole thing's a flop. But according to the tour promoter, such rumors are "ridiculous."
Arthur Fogel, the head of the Live Nation's Global Touring division, tells Billboard that in fact, ticket sales for Gaga's North American and European dates are 80 percent sold out. He also reveals that six additional North American shows will be announced in the near future, as well as additional dates in the U.K.
Responding to reports that Live Nation has lost $30 million on Gaga's tour, Fogel tells Billboard, "Just a complete fool would say something like that and it could only come from somebody who has an agenda, because it makes absolutely no sense, on any level." And why is that? Fogel says that if a tour was really doing that badly, the promoter would cancel the whole thing rather than take that kind of financial bath.
"You'd say 'pull the plug,'" explains Fogel, who's promoted huge tours by Madonna and U2 in the past.

Michael Becker/FOXAmerican Idol said goodbye to Emily Piriz on Thursday night. The 18-year-old from Orlando, Florida, was sent home after falling into the bottom three with Jena Irene and MK Nobilette.
Before Emily was dismissed, she attempted to earn the judges' save by singing Grace Potter and the Nocturnals' "Stars." However, Harry Connick, Jr. informed her that the panel would not be saving her.
Emily had saluted Jennifer Lopez on Wednesday's "Home"-themed performance show with a rendition of "Let's Get Loud."
The musical guests on the one-hour results show were former American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, who performed his new single, "Raging Fire," and the Irish band Kodaline.
Backstage, after her elimination, Emily told ABC News Radio she's grateful for the experience and is going to keep working to become a successful singer.
Ryan Seacrest told ABC News Radio that while standing on stage with Emily during her “Goodbye tape,” the singer said her stint on the show was like “a flash of time.”
Connick told ABC News Radio backstage that “nobody wants to see anybody go, but it's a competition so somebody's gonna be eliminated.” Connick added, “[I]t's a tough thing see, but...the people have spoken.”

Photo: Christie GoodwinAdam Lambert's been pretty busy lately, appearing on Glee and serving as a mentor for American Idol. Now, he's just announced a big summer tour with legendary British rock group Queen, who he's been performing with on and off since the 2009 Idol finale. But what about some new music from the singer? Adam says it's coming, and he believes the tour with Queen will help make it even better.
"I'm working on music now. I've been in Sweden the last couple weeks, and I'm working on stuff, figuring it out," he tells ABC News Radio. "And what's beautiful is that this is kind of a side-by-side thing. I mean, the fact that I get to jump over and do a tour with Queen -- like, the Queen -- not only is it going to be exciting to kind of step away from my creative process a bit, but I think it'll inform it."
"I learn something every time I'm on stage with these guys," he explains, referring to Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. "So I think that it only makes me a better performer, and ...read more
Epic RecordsIs Brandon Howard the long-lost son of Michael Jackson? A definitive conclusion was not reached on Thursday.
The website FilmOn.TV on Thursday claimed in a live event that it has seen DNA evidence showing that there's a 99.9-percent chance that the 31-year-old Howard, a singer who performs under the name B. Howard, is the King of Pop's son.
However, Howard posted a video on his Facebook page saying he's “never self-proclaimed to be Michael Jackson's son.” He said, “It is true I did do a DNA test but it had nothing to do with any of this."
Howard also denied a TMZ story – which initially brought Howard's alleged connection to MJ to light -- that he's planning to sue Michael's estate for money.
Furthermore, Howard released the following written statement: "To my fans, family, and friends, despite recent allegations, I did not authorize the testing of my DNA to be compared to that of the late Michael Jackson nor did I contact TMZ regarding the publication of the story. This spring, I agreed to be a part of a documentary with FilmOn.TV and was asked to ...read more
Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesPresident Obama has nothing but “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” for the women of soul, even if he accidentally misspelled the title of Aretha Franklin's signature anthem.
In an “oops” moment Thursday night, the president dropped a letter when paying tribute to Franklin at the White House concert series event, In Performance at the White House: Women of Soul.
“When Aretha first told us what R-S-P-E-C-T meant to her, she had no idea it would become a rallying cry for African-Americans, and women, and then everyone who felt marginalized because of what they looked like or who they loved. They wanted some respect,” the president said. President Obama's spelling error was greeted by laughter.
Making a “quick public service announcement,” the president explained that when Franklin first walked into Fame Studio in 1967, most of the other musicians had never heard her sing live before.
“When they did, one of them said, ‘The floors rumbled and the walls shook. My brain shook. It was magic,'” Obama said.
“So my advice to everyone tonight is simple: Hang on. The Queen of Soul is in the building. If she blows your mind, it ...read more
JewelJK.comJewel's debut album Pieces of You was a musical touchstone of the '90s, producing the hits "You Were Meant for Me," "Foolish Games" and "Who Will Save Your Soul." Now, get ready for the sequel...sort of.
Billboard reports that the singer is currently recording a new disc which she sees as a companion piece to Pieces of You. The connection is that the new album will be put together the same way as Pieces of You, which mixed solo studio recordings with recordings of Jewel performing with a live band, and recordings of her performing solo in front of an audience.
To that end, Billboard reports, Jewel is planning a show for her fan community, Every Day Angels, in Nashville on March 21, during which she'll record some of the tracks for the new disc. "I've just always sung better live," she tells Billboard. "There's certain songs that, when I do them in front of an audience it brings out an emotion in me that I don't get just sitting in a studio." Other tracks, however, will be cut in a regular studio.
As for whether the ...read more
