Westport Winery Earns Medals in Colorado and Connecticut

WESTPORT, Wash. - Westport Winery has again brought medals from international wine competitions to Grays Harbor.

 

In September, at the Denver International Wine Competition, Elk River Riesling and Captain Grays Gewurztraminer were awarded gold medals. The grapes used to craft these wines were grown at Red Willow Vineyards in the Yakima Valley AVA. Bog Berry Blush, the winery’s blend of Gewurztraminer and cranberry earned a silver medal.

 

At the Amenti de Vino Competition in Connecticut, Westport garnered silver medals on Ancient Mariner’s Pear, Bog Berry Blush, and Bordello Blonde, while Little Wild Blackberry brought home the bronze. Again, all the grapes for these wines were grown at Red Willow.

August Bella Blood Drive At Westport Winery

Donors are invited to make reservations for Westport Winery’s next Bella Blood Drive and join the Roberts family as they give the gift of life on Thursday, August 8 from noon to 5 p.m. The winery will accept reservations for up to three donors every 15 minutes during this timeframe. Free refreshments will be provided to donors. Basic donor criteria are available at redcrossblood.org or by calling 1-866-236-3276. Blood donors can donate every 56 days. 

Those who elect to give blood will earn a bottle of Bella at half price. A portion of the proceeds from this blend of Tempranillo, Refosco, Primativo, Barbera, Merlot and Syrah benefits the Mt. Rainier Chapter of the American Red Cross. This wine earned a gold medal at the 2012 Seattle Wine Awards. Twilight-inspired T-shirts that read “A glass a day keeps the vampires away” will be available at half price.

Bordello Blonde Garners Silver at State Competition

WESTPORT, Wash. - The Westport Winery’s Bordello Blonde won a silver medal at the Washington State Wine Competition held in Yakima, Washington this month. This blend of off-dry Gewurztraminer and Riesling is the most popular white wine of Westport’s thirty-three award-winning creations. According to the tasting notes, like any bordello blonde, this wine “goes with anyone and anything”.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this wine benefits the Aberdeen Museum of History. The label features an original drawing by Kim Roberts which is merged with underwater photography by her husband Blain Roberts, creating the only label they worked on collaboratively. The sculpture commemorating this label in the winery’s public outdoor art display is being carved by Aberdeen Museum curator Dann Sears. An unveiling date has not been determined.

Westport Winery Hosts Fleur de Lis Festival

Westport Winery’s Fleur de Lis Festival is Saturday, June 9 from noon to 5p.m. This celebration is free to attend and open to all ages.

The Westport Art Festival will host Art In The Vines during this event as a precursor to their summer art fest. Be the first to discover the latest creations from some of the best known artists in the region. At 3 p.m. during the festival, Westport Winery will unveil the sculpture Fleur de Lis, by Lora Malakoff of Clallam Bay. Malakoff is well-known in the winery’s sculpture garden as the creator of Peaches on the Beaches and Bella.

Golden Glen Creamery from Bow, Washington will be sampling their award-winning cheeses. This farm is known for its responsible agricultural practices. The milk is non-homogenized and slow-batch pasteurized for better health and flavor. Cheddar flavors offered will include tomato basil; dill and garlic; chives and onion; jalapeno; sweet basil; lavender; and cloves, caraway and cardamom. Guests will also want to try River, their sharp, double cream cheddar. And Golden Glen is famous for their sweet, salty, smooth and melt on your tongue Gouda that is aged six months.

The winery’s popular Fleur de Lis French Onion Soup will be offered all day while the Electric Park Jazz Band performs.

Erika Corban to Perform at Westport Winery CD Release Party

MARKHAM, Wash. - Singer and songwriter Ericka Corban will release her latest CD, Autumnal Equinox Live at Westport Winery on Saturday, May 26. Ericka will be at the winery personally autographing this recording from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. that day and she will be performing during dinner service that evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

If you cannot attend this release event the CD, autographed by Ericka, will be available at the winery’s gift shop. This incredible collection features album art with a painting of the winery by Westport artist Barbara Sampson.
Dinner reservations are recommended and can be made by calling Westport Winery at 360-648-2224. The winery’s restaurant will extend the summer hours beginning this weekend with lunch daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday and Saturday lunch dinner is served from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Westport Winery Selects Next Charity

Westport Winery and the Roberts family have selected the newly formed Grays Harbor Volunteer Search and Rescue Team (GHVSAR) to benefit from Float, their latest release. This organization has about 60 members throughout the county and has been diligently training and recruiting for several months. Westport Winery’s tasting room manager, Carrie Roberts, is a member of the team on the South Beach detachment. This new endeavor is designed to provide early response with well-trained volunteers to the many calls law enforcement receives as a result of those lost or victims of accidents in the county’s backcountry.

Rock & Chocolate Festival Gets Two Weekends at Westport Winery

Westport Winery will host the inaugural Rock & Chocolate Festival on two weekends, April 28 and 29 and May 5 and 6. This first time festival will include live rock music from noon to 5 p.m. on all four dates.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite rock to contribute to the “rock garden”. Once inside rock donors will be offered a free sampling of chocolate and cocoa themed delicacies. All festival attendees will get a free chocolate mousse recipe with their visit.

A portion of the proceeds from Red Sky at Night, the winery’s chocolate raspberry wine, benefits the Westport Timberland Library. The winery’s bakery case will be chock full of chocolate desserts from chocolate cream pie to chocolate stout cake and chocolate truffle bars.

The winery will be serving complimentary soup to guests of all ages. Those over 21 are welcome to sample up to five of Westport’s 33 award-winning wines for $5. (Wine club members and their guests taste for free.) The specialty wine cocktail served in the winery’s restaurant during this event is a chocolate mint martini made with Westport’s fortified Riesling wine called Float.

Westport Winery Business of The Month for March

The Grays Harbor Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors has recognized Westport Winery as their March 2011 Business of the Month.

 

According to a letter from the Chamber, “The Ambassadors diligently strive to select the most deserving of the more than 5,000 businesses in Grays Harbor for this distinguished award.
