A 16 year old male from Olympia was arrested after leading Ocean Shores Police Officers on a high speed chase throughout downtown and the beach. Sgt Don Grossi with Ocean Shores police tells KBKW the call originally came in as a vehicle stuck in the sand earlier Tuesday afternoon. Sergeant Grossi responded and the vehicle was gone from the beach when he arrived. A vehicle that matched the description of the stuck vehicle was seen leaving the Ocean Lake Way Beach Approach as Sergeant Grossi was arriving on scene. Officers were later advised that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Olympia.
A short time later, Sergeant Grossi located the same vehicle on the beach spinning circles near the Damon Road Beach Approach. Sergeant Grossi caught up with the vehicle and the vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel. The vehicle then took off at a high rate and lead officers on a high speed chase throughout the downtown area and the beach. The chase ended at the end of Chickamin Street in Illahee. The two occupants fled the vehicle into the dune area behind the residence on Chickamin Street. Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Department responded with a K-9 and one of the two subjects was apprehended without incident. That subject, a juvenile, was booked into the Grays Harbor Juvenile Detention facility. The second subject, also a juvenile, got away but has been identified and a case will be submitted to the Grays Harbor Prosecutor for charges against him.
The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of vehicle prowls throughout the county that seem to be taking advantage of unlocked doors.
Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate tells us on Tuesday deputies took several reports of vehicle prowls that occurred around the Clemons Road area of Montesano, and East Central Park (Aberdeen). The prowls appear to have occurred between Sunday night and early Monday morning. All but one of the vehicle prowls involved items taken from unlocked vehicles. The one vehicle prowl where forced entry was made most likely occurred because the vehicle had a number of power tools inside, to include a chainsaw, Skill saw, reciprocating saw, etc. All of those items were stolen. Items taken from the other vehicle prowls included purses, car keys, raingear, cell phone chargers, etc. The specific locations of the vehicle prowls and thefts occurred on Englund Avenue (Montesano), residences in the 100-200 block of Clemons Road, and Haek Lane of Central Park.
