Timberland Regional Library schedules closures for spring training

Timberland Regional Library (TRL) employees will have a day of training at their local branches in May. Staff will participate in training to enhance their knowledge and skills in library service to the public.

Each branch will close for one day on a rolling schedule beginning May 7th to ensure the public still has access to services. The TRL Administrative Center will not close.

Timberland Regional Library branches now offering access to Microsoft IT Academy

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Library has joined with Microsoft to present free access to anyone with a Timberland library card to its Microsoft IT Academy. This includes about 1700 courses–from the most basic (how to use a mouse and keyboard) through IT Professional training courses.

The IT Academy offers technology courses on three levels – basic digital literacy skills, Microsoft Office Skills and advanced skills for IT Professionals. Timberland Regional Library says they are able to offer free access to the Microsoft IT Academy for all Timberland patrons through a collaboration between Washington libraries, Microsoft, the Washington State Library, Office of Secretary of State and the Washington State Legislature.

Timberland Regional Library November Calendar for Grays Harbor

Ongoing library programs: Story Times

 

Readiness for reading and school, positive experiences among families and friends, and growth in the connection between libraries, learning and joy: these are some of the objectives of library story time programs for children from birth to Kindergarten. Following are the regular story time program series being held this season at local Timberland Regional Libraries.

 

Preschool Story Time

 

For children ages 3 to 6. Join in a program of stories, rhymes, songs and movement games. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in.

Family Story Time

 

For children age 6 and younger and their families; all ages are welcome. Join in a program of stories, rhymes, songs and movement games.

Stop by the library anytime during open hours, and ask the librarian for a story.

Aberdeen Timberland Library presents Remix the Masters, October 1-May 31, 2014 for teens. Let your inner artist shine. Each month learn about a different artist and create a small art project inspired by their art. Pick up your do-it-yourself kit at the library early in the month as supplies are limited. Oakville Timberland Library presents Watercolor & Acrylic Painting, Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., for adults. Bring your art supplies and join others on Wednesdays for painting and fun. The Friends of the Montesano Timberland Library will hold a book sale Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale will be held in the library meeting room. Please enter at the back of the building. For more information call (360) 249-4211.

 

Westport Timberland Library presents NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month at the Library, November 1-30 for adults and teens. A writing adventure: to churn out a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. Saturday, November 2

 

Amanda Park Timberland Library presents Schafer Bros. Logging Film and Book Signing , 3-4:15 p.m., November 2 for adults. LOCATION: Lake Quinault Lodge, 345 S Shore Rd. Peter Reid, a member of the Schafer family, will show recently restored films of 1926 logging operations of one of the largest lumber businesses in the Northwest. Following the 45-minute film, Mr. Reid and Barbara Seal Ogle will talk about their recently released book, “Schafer State Park.” The book was published in celebration of the Washington State Parks System’s 100th anniversary. Thursday, November 7

 

Oakville Timberland Library presents Tribute to Patsy Cline, 6:30-7:30 p.m., November 7 for all ages. LOCATION: Oakville Middle School Gym, 103 School Street, Oakville. Southwest Washington’s own Elizabeth Stierle will present her tribute to American country and pop music singer Patsy Cline. Stierle sings some of the best-loved songs Cline recorded, illustrating the singer’s development as one of the first crossover artists from country to pop. She’ll be accompanied on guitar by her husband Paul, a team also known to regional fans as “Buck and Elizabeth.” For more information call (360) 273-5305.

 

Westport Timberland Library presents National Novel Writing Month Author Talk: Eileen Pinkerton, 1-2 p.m., November 7 for adults and teens. Eileen Pinkerton, author and library staff member, will read an excerpt from her latest novel, “Utopia, Oregon.” Ms. Pinkerton will discuss her process of writing and the “National Novel Writing Month” experience. National Novel Writing Month writers, you’re almost halfway there. “Come Write In” to the library for a quiet place to continue working feverishly on your NaNoWriMo novel. Elma Timberland Library presents Ninjago Party, 2-3 p.m., November 14 for children grades 1-6. Based on the Ninjago book and television series. Unlock your true potential. Learn your Ninjago name, run a training course (like Kai), use your robot claw to protect others (like Zane) and build and knock down mountains (like Cole). Friday, November 15

 

Aberdeen and HoquiamTimberland Libraries present “Catching Fire” Teen Lock-In Event, 6-10 p.m., November 15 for Hoquiam and Aberdeen teens. LOCATION: Hoquiam Timberland Library, 420 7th St., Hoquiam. Aberdeen and Hoquiam teens can celebrate the Hunger Games trilogy and the movie release of “Catching Fire” at the Hoquiam library by dressing as their favorite characters, registering as a Panem citizen and practicing for the games. Westport Timberland Library presents NaNoWriMo: TGIO, 1-2 p.m., November 30 for adults and teens. Thank Goodness It’s Over. Finishers and non-finishers alike are welcome to celebrate their word counts. Winners–those who reach a word count of 50,000 by midnight Nov. 30–can pose with a finisher’s certificate for the library’s “Writer Hall of Fame”.
