Sara Bareilles Records 1967 Soul Classic to Promote Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network

Courtesy OWNOprah Winfrey‘s OWN Network is designed to be uplifting, and now it’s tapped Sara Bareilles to record an uplifting song for its summer promotional campaign.

Rolling Stone reports that Sara has cut a version of the 1967 Jackie Wilson soul classic “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” to serve as the theme song for OWN’s summer lineup. A promotional video shows Sara belting out the tune in the studio, intercut with shots from OWN series like Oprah’s Master Class, Fix My Life, Oprah Prime, Lifeclass, Where Are They Now, Haves and Have Nots, Life with LaToya, For Better, Our America and more.

The video encourages fans to spread inspirational messages using the hashtag #HigherAndHigher.

“(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” was also a huge hit in 1977 for singer Rita Coolidge.

Sara Bareilles' Heart Is "Soaked with Excitement" over New Musical

Credit: Danny Clinch2014 has already been pretty memorable for Sara Bareilles: she attended the Grammys, where she was nominated for two awards and got to perform with music legend Carole King; she teamed with VH1 for a new initiative to bring instruments to schools; and she appeared on Live from the Artists’ Den. Now, she’s deep into her most challenging project yet: writing songs for a stage musical.

“It’s really exciting. We’re doing a stage adaptation of the film Waitress, and there’s some incredible collaborators on board,” she tells ABC News Radio. “And so when I was approached to try this I was like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m really curious. So, gimme a shot. If it doesn’t work out, let me know!'”

Sara’s currently in New York City hard at work on the project, and she tweeted, “Oh boy. My heart is soaked with excitement. Sara Bareilles Teams with VH1 to Give Schools Brand-New Pianos

Credit: Danny ClinchSara Bareilles knows first-hand how important music education is, and that’s why she’s teaming with VH1’s Save the Music Foundation to give 10 lucky schools around the country the opportunity to win brand-new pianos.

Sara is the ambassador for a new grant program called Keys + Kids. Starting now, all U.S. K-12th grade public schools can apply to be awarded one of 10 packages worth $10,000 each. Each package includes a brand new Yamaha upright piano, a Yamaha portable PA system, and a Shure vocal microphone. Applications will be accepted through VH1SavetheMusic.org through April 30.

“Music changed my life. I was one of the lucky kids who had access to wonderful music programming in my school, and it has profoundly and positively affected me in more ways than I can mention,” Sara says in a statement. “A piano symbolizes the centerpiece of all of that for me, and I’m so happy to…bring 10 piano packages into deserving classrooms.”

Report: Sara Bareilles Hires Bruno Mars's Manager

Credit: Danny ClinchIn January, Sara Bareilles fired her manager after he allegedly got into a very public altercation with Sharon Osbourne at a music industry event. Now, sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that Sara’s got a new manager who seems to be doing a pretty good job for his other client: Bruno Mars.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sara’s new manager is Brandon Creed, who handles Bruno’s career and also looks after Bruno’s production collective, The Smeezingtons. Producer Mark Ronson is also part of Creed’s stable. Creed used to work at Epic Records, Sara’s label.

Sara’s former manager, Jordan Feldstein, is the brother of actor Jonah Hill, and is also the manager of Maroon 5.
