Sting, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Kevin Spacey & More Croon & Clown at 2014 Rainforest Benefit

By Andrea Dresdale

Kevin Mazur/WireImageSting singing Italian opera? Kevin Spacey impersonating Bill Clinton…while standing next to Bill Clinton? Paul Simon cracking jokes like a stand-up comic? It could only happen at Sting’s long-running Rainforest Benefit Concert, which marked 25 years of fundraising Thursday night at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall.

As usual, Sting and his wife Trudie Styler put together a star-studded cast of musicians to entertain the crowd. In addition to Sting himself, the lineup included Sting’s recent tour mate Paul Simon, as well as James Taylor, Stephen Stills, Bruce Springsteen’s wife and E Street Band member Patti Scialfa, Dionne Warwick, opera star Renee Fleming, trumpeter Chris Botti, Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac, two of Sting’s children and Spacey, who proved himself to be quite the entertainer all evening.

The night began with Sting, Spacey, and Taylor performing the Cole Porter classic “Well, Did You Evah!,” an over-the-top comical music number from the movie High Society. Then, the tuxedo-clad Spacey offered up a spot-on imitation of Johnny Carson, before launching into a version of “That’s Life,” made famous by Frank Sinatra. Throughout the evening, Spacey also joined in on group …read more

Paul Simon to Perform at National Baseball Hall of Fame’s 75th Anniversary Concert

By Andrea Dresdale

PaulSimon.comAs part of Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon once sang “Where have you gone/Joe DiMaggio?” He’ll be communing with the late, great ball player’s spirit on August 2, when he travels to Cooperstown, New York to play at a concert celebrating the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum’s 75th Anniversary.

At the concert, which will pay tribute to baseball through music, film and video, Simon is scheduled to perform three songs. No doubt one of them will be “Mrs. Robinson,” the song that contains that famous Joe DiMaggio line; back in 2006, he donated a copy of the song to the Hall of Fame’s library.

Others on the bill for the concerts include musician and former New York Yankee Bernie Williams, as well as the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. More stars will be announced in the coming weeks.

Simon is currently on tour with Sting; the two musicians will wrap up their joint trek March 16 in Orlando.
