United Way announces distributions sites for Coat & Blanket Drive

ABERDEEN, Wash. - Community Distribution Sites for the 2013 Coat & Blanket Drive by the United Way/Les Schwab will open on Nov 5. All locations will be open Tuesday, November 5th from 10 am – 3:00 pm. Families, children and individuals in need are welcome to go to the following locations to get a coat or blanket at no charge while supplies last.

United Way is working directly with elementary schools in our area to deliver coats and new tennis shoes to  the demand is overwhelming as many children are wearing shoes that no longer fit or are so worn that their feet are getting soaked.  We are still looking to fill those school ‘wish lists’. We will need 200 children’s coats and almost 300 pairs of new children’s tennis shoes to meet the need.

 

Donations are being accepted until Oct 31, there are boxes at many participating merchants including all Les Schwab, Dennis Company, Anchor Bank and Timberland Bank locations, Jodesha Broadcasting, Grays Harbor Radio and the Daily World .

United Way Coat & Blanket Drive is underway, and needs shoes

ABERDEEN, Wash. - Collection boxes are out, and United Way is teaming with local businesses and organizations during the month of October to make sure that people have coats and blankets for the winter. United Way will also be collecting new shoes for elementary school children. (Used shoes cannot be used for health reasons. United Way works directly with area elementary schools to deliver new shoes and coats to the schools. The demand is overwhelming as many children are wearing shoes that no longer fit or are so worn that their feet are getting soaked. There are more than 5,000 elementary children and United Way anticipates needing more than 300 pairs of shoes to meet requests from local schools.

During October bring your donations to any Les Schwab, Dennis Company, Anchor Bank and Timberland Bank locations. After sending items directly to local schools there will be community distributions on November 5th for, families and children who need them in Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Westport, Ocean Shores, Montesano and Elma.

New Shareholder, and NASCAR driving star Greg Biffle Will be At Grays Harbor Raceway Park

Grays Harbor Raceway announced yesterday that new partner and NASCAR driving star Greg Biffle will be on hand July 16th during the ASCS National Series Fred Brownfield Memorial event. Biffle who is running 10th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup points has also made himself available for a Media Press Conference and for an autograph session on Friday at the Raceway.

With this announcement, the DAA Northwest Spec Motor Dirt Late Model Series presented by Sherwin Williams that the Greg Biffle Foundation sponsors is replacing the Ford Focus Midgets on Friday, July 16th. The Ford Focus Midgets will run on Saturday July 17th, the final night of the 4th Annual Fred Brownfield Memorial Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series weekend.

Pepper Spray and Broken Glass in Downtown Aberdeen

A Possible drug deal gone bad in downtown Aberdeen yesterday ended with one man pepper sprayed, two in custody and several leads in an ongoing narcotics investigation
Aberdeen Police Officers were called to the downtown Jack in the Box just before 4:30 Wednesday afternoon regarding a fight, and possible two-vehicle collision.

a blue van was found in the parking lot with damage to the front and rear, as well as a red passenger car with extensive front-end damage. Officers located the driver of the van at the nearby Les Schwab, further investigation yielded reports of a gold-colored passdenger car having fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
