Capitol RecordsHere’s another reason to check out the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday. Katy Perry will use the broadcast to perform her new single, “Birthday,” for the first time on television.
Katy will perform the song via satellite from her Prismatic world tour — she’ll be in Glasgow, Scotland Sunday night. “Birthday” of course is the song with the video that has Katy dressed as a variety of the world’s worst birthday party entertainers, though it’s not known if she’ll adopt any of those personas for her performance.
Katy’s a finalist in ten BBMA categories this year, including top artist and top Hot 100 song. Other performers on the broadcast include Imagine Dragons, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, OneRepublic, Pitbull and others.
The Billboard Music Awards air live on ABC Sunday, May 18 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

As previously reported, Katy is one of a number of musicians in a variety of genres who all collaborated with artist Mark Ryden on a limited-edition album which features them all singing the same song: “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two).” Written in 1892, the song is also sometimes known as “Daisy, Daisy.” You may remember it from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey — it’s the song the supercomputer, HAL 9000, sings just before he shuts down.
The album, called The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell, features Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Weird Al Yankovic and others all singing “Daisy Bell.” It’s part of Ryden’s current exhibit, “The Gay 90s,” which is on view now at the Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles. As previously reported, there are only 999 copies of the vinyl …read more
Capitol Records/Interscope RecordsIn the past, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have tried to discourage their fans from attacking one another. Yet Gaga on Thursday posted a tweet that some have perceived as a slight toward Katy.
Gaga tweeted, “It looks like green hair and mechanical horses are the thing now,” along with an emoji representing a pair of googly eyes.
That very well could have been a reference to Katy, who’s had green hair for about a month now. She rode an animatronic horse while performing “Dark Horse” during the first show of her Prismatic World Tour, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Wednesday night.
So what does all this have to do with Gaga? The performer arrived to the American Music Awards last year on a white mechanical horse. Not long afterward, she sported green hair for a photo shoot with Terry Richardson.
Back in January, some Gaga fans attacked Katy on Twitter after she posted an image of the stage design for her tour. They felt it was a rip-off of the stage design for Gaga’s Born This Way Ball tour.
Last summer, Gaga encouraged her fans to treat …read more
Image Courtesy Madonna via InstagramMadonna has just revealed yet another collaborator with whom she’s working with on her new album: it’s the guy currently rumored to be Katy Perry‘s new boyfriend.
Madonna posted some photos to her Instagram account revealing that her new musical partner is Diplo, the DJ and producer born Wesley Pentz. He’s worked with Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Usher, Bruno Mars, Beyonce and many other top artists. He made headlines last month when People magazine reported that he and Katy Perry had been spotted together looking “lovey-dovey” and “very affectionate.”
In the first photo, Madonna’s hands are shown typing on a laptop, and she’s got a drawing of a dinosaur — Diplo’s trademark — on her forearm. “Working with @Diplo got me like…………….WHAAaaat?,” she wrote. The second shot is a selfie, which she’s captioned, “Diplo is a slave driver! Got me working all hours of the night in the studio. Had to sneak into the bathroom!”
In addition to Diplo, Madonna’s new album includes collaborations with DJ and producer Avicii, as well as songwriters Toby Gad, MoZella, S1, and Natalia Kills. No word on when we can expect …read more
Goldenvoice/AEG LiveKaty Perry kicked off her Prismatic World Tour Wednesday night in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with a show that included numerous eye-popping costumes, most of the songs from her new album PRISM and even a cover of Madonna‘s “Vogue.”
Katy performed a mash-up of “Vogue” and her PRISM tune “International Smile” midway through her set at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena. She opened with “Roar” and closed with a performance of “Firework.” The pop diva’s costumes included a Cats-like leotard in pink and a Cleopatra outfit. The dazzling show even included an animatronic horse that Perry rode out on for her song “Dark Horse.”
The Belfast Telegraph reports at one point during the show, Katy scanned the fan-made signs in the audience and joked, “Don’t make me cry my false eyelashes off.”
Katy has a second show scheduled for Thursday night at the Odyssey Arena before she moves on to Newcastle, England, for a concert this Saturday. Icona Pop is opening for Katy on all of her UK dates.

Courtesy: Kohn GalleryKaty Perry recently told reporters she’s interested in getting into art collecting, but now she’s been turned into an actual work of art. She’s the subject of one of the paintings in The Gay ’90′s: West, a new exhibition by artist Mark Ryden. Not only that, but she’s also appearing on a concept album Ryden has created to accompany the exhibit.
Ryden’s work is described as “pop surrealism,” and takes inspiration from old toys and stuffed animals, anatomical models, skeletons and other odd, mysterious items found in flea markets. His paintings also feature images of little girls with round heads and large eyes, and he’s adapted that style to depict Katy in one of the paintings, which he calls Katy Aphrodite.
Asked how he came to paint Katy, Ryden tells The Hollywood Reporter that his 11-year-old niece told him that the singer was a fan of his. “I guess she had mentioned me in some interviews. I just got to meet her, and we were admirers of each other, and I asked her, and she did it,” he explained.

The day of the show, as you travel around your town, you may just find yourself being handed a pair of tickets by Katy herself…in disguise.
Speaking to the British publication The Journal, Katy explains that while she’s on tour, she, her band and her crew like to explore the cities that they visit by bicycle. “We always bring bikes on tour and cycle all around to find the best parks,” she says. “Sometimes when we go bike riding the day before or the morning of a show, we take some tickets and stop along the way in coffee shops and places and give them away, secretly. But I wear a hat and sunglasses so you don’t really know that it’s me!”
Well, now that Katy’s warned us, you can keep an eye out for her in your local park. The North American leg of the tour gets underway June 22 in Raleigh, …read more
