John Mayer Dedicates South Korean Concert to Ferry Victims

ABC/Randy HolmesPerforming for the first time in South Korea this week, John Mayer dedicated his performance to the victims of the recent ferry disaster in that country.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John took the stage Tuesday night in Seoul wearing a yellow ribbon, and announcing that all the songs he would perform would be dedicated to the nearly 270 victims of the April 16 tragedy, many of whom were high school students. The ferry, which was carrying 475 passengers, capsized; 34 passengers remain missing as of May 6.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John also said that all the proceeds from merchandise sales would go to relief aid in the wake of the disaster. John’s concert was the first to take place in Seoul since the disaster. Concerts, festival and film premieres were canceled and album releases were postponed as the country mourned the victims.

Madonna to Direct Adaptation of Novel About Young Couple in War-Torn Africa

Image Courtesy Madonna via InstagramMadonna is getting back behind the camera. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Queen of Pop will direct a movie adaption of Adé: A Love Story, a novella by Rebecca Walker.

The novella follows the story of a college student named Farida, who falls in love with Adé, a Swahili man living on an island off the coast of Kenya. The two plan to marry and live a simple life, but when Farida finds herself caught in the middle of a civil war, their hopes for a happy ending are dashed. Madonna and the movie’s producers are now looking for a screenwriter to adapt the book.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the themes and subjects in Adé: A Love Story include sex, religion, race and lesbianism, all of which are subjects Madonna has touched upon throughout her career. She’s also no doubt comfortable with the book’s African setting, having traveled there numerous times and adopted two of her children from that continent. Report: Sara Bareilles Hires Bruno Mars's Manager

Credit: Danny ClinchIn January, Sara Bareilles fired her manager after he allegedly got into a very public altercation with Sharon Osbourne at a music industry event. Now, sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that Sara’s got a new manager who seems to be doing a pretty good job for his other client: Bruno Mars.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sara’s new manager is Brandon Creed, who handles Bruno’s career and also looks after Bruno’s production collective, The Smeezingtons. Producer Mark Ronson is also part of Creed’s stable. Creed used to work at Epic Records, Sara’s label.

Sara’s former manager, Jordan Feldstein, is the brother of actor Jonah Hill, and is also the manager of Maroon 5.
