Grays Harbor County Coroner Dan Burns announces retirement

Grays Harbor County Coroner Dan Burns has announced he plans to retire, Burns said in a press release it would take effect June first.

After over 40 years of public service, including 25 years as a Washington State Patrol Trooper and over 15 years in the Coroner’s Office, with the last 5 years as the appointed Interim Coroner then as the elected Coroner.

His elected term expires this year, so the Democratic party will provide a list of three candidates to the county commissioners for an appointed replacement.
Candidate filing opens May 12th through the 16th for 10 offices in Grays Harbor County (21 total) including the vacant county prosecutor position, as well as Sheriff, Auditor, Assessor, Coroner, and Herb Welch’s seat on the County Commission.

“My decision to retire was made after discussions with family and friends and I decided that now is the right time to retire. My wife, Lorene and I are ready to spend more time with our children and four, soon to be five grandchildren.

It has been my pleasure to work with the dedicated and professional staff at the Coroner’s Office, the local funeral homes, the various law enforcement agencies, the numerous members of the medical community and the many other agencies and organizations that we deal with.

I would again like to thank the citizens of our county who elected me to serve as the Coroner. It has been a true privilege.”
