Michael McDonald & The Doobie Brothers Reunite — Finally — for Country Duets Album

Doobie Bros. w/Sara Evans & Brad Paisley (Credit: Alan Poizner)Michael McDonald officially left the Doobie Brothers in 1982, but he’s reuniting with his old bandmates for a new duets album. It’ll feature the band performing updated versions of their hits with some of today’s biggest country stars.

The record, which will be released later in 2014 on the Sony Music Nashville label, will include appearances by Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Sara Evans, and Chris Young, among others.

The project was officially announced last week at an invite-only event in Nashville during the annual Country Music Seminar. At the bash, The Doobie Brothers gave a surprise performance alongside Brad, Sara and Chris in front of an audience of music-industry VIPs and media members.

The album, which has been in the works for a few months, will feature tunes that have been hand-picked by each country act. Why country music in the first place? Well, the Doobies have recently established a connection with Nashville. Brad Paisley Is Headed Back to ABC’s “Nashville” on January 29

Arista NashvilleBrad Paisley is set to make his second cameo on ABC’s Nashville later this month. He’ll appear on the January 29 episode, titled “It’s All Wrong, but It’s All Right,” to induct Juliette Barnes into the Grand Ole Opry. The scene was shot at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, where the Opry is held during the winter months. Brad appeared on Nashville last season performing with Connie Britton‘s character Rayna Jaymes at the CMA Awards.

Of course, Brad’s wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, has been appearing as Peggy Kenter in Nashville, but her character was shot in last month’s winter finale. …read more

Chris Young Has a Brand-New Show for His Return to the Brad Paisley Tour Tonight

Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw Win at People’s Choice Awards

Big Machine RecordsTaylor Swift and Tim McGraw were winners Wednesday night at the 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards, held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.

Taylor was named favorite country artist, while Tim picked up the prize for country music icon. Neither appeared on the CBS telecast.

Brad Paisley was in attendance, though, to perform his song “The Mona Lisa.” He also had a role in the opening monologue, interacting from his seat in the audience with 2 Broke Girls stars and People’s Choice hosts Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs.
