In the video, posted Tuesday from Brisbane, Australia, Michael, clad in a tux, holds his baby son Noah as he belts out “Let It Go.” His wife Luisana sings and sways next to him. They’re surrounded by a female string section, and one of Michael’s musical collaborators, Alan Yang, plays the keyboards.

Tonight this Academy Award winning song- originally sung beautifully by @idinamenzel has been heavily requested,” Michael captioned the video, and as always, he asks fans to submit requests for future warm-up tunes. Among the one’s he’s done recently: Pharrell Williams‘ “Happy,Bill Withers‘ “Lean on Me,” Elvis Presley‘s “All Shook Up” and Maroon 5‘s “Moves Like Jagger.”

Taylor Swift's Piano Playing Skills Landed Her Role in "The Giver"

By Andrea Dresdale

Cliff Lipson/CBS Taylor Swift appears in the upcoming movie The Giver opposite such big names as Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes. But it turns out that one of the reasons she got the role isn’t her acting skills, but her musical skills — specifically, her ability to play the piano.

According to The Washington Post, the producer of The Giver, Nikki Silver, appeared at an event at the Library of Congress to promote the film, along with Lois Lowry, who wrote the book on which the film is based. Silver explained that the character Taylor plays, Rosemary, was originally written as someone who played the piano. They auditioned several other actresses for the part, Silver said, but when the producers attended one of Taylor’s concerts last year, they saw her playing the piano and realized that she might fit the bill.

“She’s a very soulful, interesting young woman and we had this very out-of-the box idea that maybe it would make sense that she could be our Rosemary,” Silver said, according to the Post. “And she’s fantastic. I’ve spent a lot of time with her, …read more

Lady Gaga Auctioning Her Rolls-Royce for Charity

By Andrea Dresdale

Courtesy Julien’s AuctionsIn 2012, Lady Gaga traveled to New York City’s Guggenheim Museum for a publicity event in a red Rolls-Royce. Now, she’s selling that sweet ride for a good cause.

The car is going under the hammer this Saturday, May 17 in New York City. Julien’s Auctions auction house is selling the 1990 Rolls-Royce Corniche III, with all proceeds going to MusiCares. That’s the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, the folks who bring you the Grammy Awards. The Rolls is expected to bring between 30 and 50 thousand bucks.

If you can’t afford to bid on the car but still want to take a peek at it in person, it’ll be on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York’s Times Square all this week.

Justin Timberlake to Play Legendary Street Basketball Star in New Film?

By Andrea Dresdale

Tom Munroe/RCA RecordsJustin Timberlake‘s known as a golfer, but if one report is correct, he’ll be showing off his basketball skills soon…on the big screen.

The film industry news website The Tracking Board reports that Justin has signed to play real-life basketball player Jack Ryan in a movie called Release: The Jack Ryan story. Ryan is a New York City street ball legend who never played in the NBA, but is still considered to be one of the most gifted players ever. He did play with the Harlem Wizards, an entertainment team, and toured with them internationally. He now works putting on one-man basketball shows at corporate events, half-time shows, NBA events and parties, and is also a motivational speaker.

The movie is based on a documentary of the same name about Ryan. No word on when the movie will begin shooting, or whether Justin will do his own basketball stunts.

Clay Aiken's Opponent in Congressional Race, Keith Crisco, Dies

By Andrea Dresdale

ClayAiken.comClay Aiken‘s opponent in the Democratic primary for North Carolina’s Second Congressional District seat, Keith Crisco, died Monday, according to the company he owned, Asheboro Elastics Corporation.

The textile entrepreneur and former state commerce secretary died at his home around 1:30 p.m., the company said. He had fallen, a spokesperson for the company told ABC News, but no other information was immediately available.

At the time of his death, the race was still too close to call. Aiken was leading Crisco by just 369 votes, and on Tuesday the votes are scheduled to be officially certified. The two were locked in a battle to take on incumbent GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers.

In a statement, Clay said he was suspending all campaign activities in light of Crisco’s death. He said, “I am stunned and deeply saddened by Keith Crisco’s death. Keith came from humble beginnings. No matter how high he rose – to Harvard, to the White House and to the Governor’s Cabinet – he never forgot where he came from. He was a gentleman, a good and honorable man and an extraordinary public servant. I was honored to know him.”

Listen to Katy Perry Sing a Song from 1892

By Andrea Dresdale

Courtesy: Kohn GalleryTalk about a throwback! While some artists like to cover old songs, Katy Perry has covered a really, really old song. Like, more than a hundred years old.

As previously reported, Katy is one of a number of musicians in a variety of genres who all collaborated with artist Mark Ryden on a limited-edition album which features them all singing the same song: “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two).” Written in 1892, the song is also sometimes known as “Daisy, Daisy.” You may remember it from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey — it’s the song the supercomputer, HAL 9000, sings just before he shuts down.

Now, you can hear about a minute’s worth of Katy’s take on the song, which is very sweet, and features acoustic guitar and female backing vocals.

The album, called The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell, features Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Weird Al Yankovic and others all singing “Daisy Bell.” It’s part of Ryden’s current exhibit, “The Gay 90s,” which is on view now at the Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles. As previously reported, there are only 999 copies of the vinyl …read more

Billy Joel Marks 65th Birthday Onstage in NYC with Special Guests

By Andrea Dresdale

Kevin Mazur/WireImage“It’s a pretty good crowd for a birthday,” sang Billy Joel on Friday night in New York City. The Piano Man turned 65 on Friday, and marked that milestone in grand style: onstage at Madison Square Garden, in front of 20,000 screaming fans.

Billy was introduced to the crowd Friday night by his good pal, Howard Stern, who said he hoped that the singer would continue to play once a month at Madison Square Garden for the rest of his life — “and even after he dies, we should stuff him and bring him out here, and we’ll have more Billy Joel!” Stern added.

Stern was joined onstage by his wife, Beth, as well as Billy’s girlfriend, Alexis, and several young girls, all of whom were carrying adorable puppies. He then announced that Billy was donating 100% of the proceeds from the evening’s concert to the North Shore Animal League, a shelter in Long Island, New York from which the Piano Man had adopted his pug, Rosie. At that point, Stern brought Billy onstage, calling him “Saint Billy Joel” for supporting the animals, and the entire …read more
